News24 reports that 6 083 people were murdered in South Africa in the first three months of the year, an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year when 4 976 murders were recorded. President Cyril Ramaphosa meanwhile met with representatives of political parties on Thursday to address their concerns on the security situation in the country and economic difficulties affecting citizens. Ramaphosa reportedly highlighted efforts to rebuild the integrity and capability of law enforcement agencies, the operationalisation of the Border Management Agency, and more effective implementation of immigration and labour laws. He also cautioned against perceptions that link migration to criminality.
