Political analyst Ralph Mathekga believes president Cyril Ramaphosa is under pressure to appear before the state capture inquiry. This is after former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe made damning allegations about the president at the commission. Molefe claimed that Ramaphosa was used by mining giant Glencore for political protection and to peddle his considerable influence. In an editorial piece on News24, Mathekga says the president’s appearance at the inquiry would safeguard its legitimacy. Mathekga also spoke to Future Media News, saying that the implications for Ramaphosa will be political not ncessarily legal.
