The SA National Blood Service has unveiled the first “journey of blood” laboratory in KwaZulu-Natal to enable people to witness first-hand the testing and processing of blood. The SANBS said it built the facility in Mount Edgecombe, where the public will be able to tour the facility without physically entering its laboratory space, to raise awareness of blood transfusion in the province and grow the donor pool so that eventually KZN could supply enough blood to meet its own needs. Locally anyone between the ages of 16 and 65 who weighs more than 65kg and lives a healthy lifestyle is welcome to donate – contact the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia via their website: bts.com.na or search for NAMBTService on Facebook.
