The Constitutional Court is hearing an application by AfriForum for leave to appeal an earlier judgement by the Supreme Court of Appeals which reviewed and set aside the University of South Africa’s language policy. Newsflash reports that in 2016, Unisa adopted a policy that sought to introduce indigenous African languages into the curriculum and phase out the guarantee that courses would be taught in both Afrikaans and English. Afriforum is challenging the policy, says it is not constitutional. Justice Leona Theron has asked the bench about the remedial action.
