South Africa’s Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, says he cannot guarantee that the Covid- 19 temporary employee relief scheme will be extended. As of Monday, 49.5-billion-rand had been disbursed in benefits since the beginning of the lockdown with over 11-million payments having reached some five-million laid-off workers. Nxesi said 3.5-billion-rand of wrongful payments had also been recouped.
