South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed that the plans to hold the local government elections in October will go ahead. This as chairperson, Glen Mashinini, insisted that the commission will be taking additional steps to find a balance between protecting the democratic rights of South Africans and protecting lives.

In related news: Phumzile van Damme has resigned as a DA MP, as well as from the main opposition party but insisted that she would not be joining another party, nor would she “be spending time launching attacks on the DA”.
