Following recent, much publicised, incidents of medical xenophobia South African Health Minister Joe Phaahla says the Constitution is “very clear” regarding the rights of people who live in the country to be assisted with the best possible healthcare. News24 quotes Phaahla as saying that there is a massive demand from neighbouring countries for health services in South Africa with people from “as far as India [being] admitted”, but he admitted that services in the country “are under pressure” and that if “this demand keeps on increasing”, the country could reach a stage where it is not sustainable.
