South Africa’s Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, has insisted that despite what many are saying, 30% is not the pass requirement for South African matrics. News24 reports that Motshekga said they had observed the debate and discussion in the public arena on the pass requirements for the National Senior Certificate, explaining that there were in fact three NSC pass requirements. The lowest of these nonetheless requires the candidate to obtain at least 40% for their Home Language, at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, obtain at least 40% for two other subjects, at least 30% for another three, and pass at least six of the seven subjects.
