South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will address both houses of parliament on Tuesday over the floods in KwaZulu-Natal province where businesses have been left reeling with billions of rand in damages. Local media report that he is expected to outline the government’s response and any additional funding after declaring the flooding a national state of disaster. Ramaphosa said over R 1 billion has already been set aside as relief. This all comes as a UN technical team arrived in the region on Monday as part of a three-day visit to the province.
