South African Transport minister Fikile Mbalula says he remains seriously concerned at the escalation of attacks on trucks, after six trucks were attacked, torched and petrol bombed in separate instances across Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal between the 24 and 25th of last month, in attacks apparently linked to xenophobia. Mbalula, who is expected to launch the national road safety festive season campaign tomorrow, also said that efforts to curb the scourge of fatalities on the country’s roads require a collaborative effort between government and civil society and that lawlessness on the roads will not be tolerated.
