South Africa’s official unemployment rate has declined to 34.5% in the first quarter of 2022. Statistics SA said on Monday that unemployment was highest among those aged 15 to 24 years (63.9%) and 25 to 34 years (42.1%). Fin24 reports that the country’s official unemployment rate retreated from a record high of 35.3% in the fourth quarter of 2021 to 34.5% in the first quarter of 2022, Statistics SA reported on Monday. For the second quarter in a row, the expanded unemployment rate – which includes discouraged work seekers who have given up looking for work – declined. It fell from 46.2% to 45.5%.
