South African shoppers can now do their banking at the till as Shoprite’s Money Market Account has been upgraded to a fully-fledged, transactional bank account. The account, the first offered by a South African retailer, gives almost two million banked and unbanked customers access to basic transactional banking at a lower cost than any other entry-level bank account on the market. Clients pay a flat R5 fee for cash withdrawals, every other transaction is free, and there are no monthly fees. When contacted by Future Media News, Shoprite however chose not to comment on whether there are any plans to pursue a similar offer in the Namibian market.
