Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare Doreen Sioka said she stands by her controversial call to possibly jail gender-based violence victims who withdraw cases as according to her they are wasting Government resources. Sioka told the Namibia press agency in a recent interview that she has already started lobbying with the Ministry of Justice to have the jailing of GBV victims who withdraw cases included in the amendments of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, which are expected to be tabled in Parliament next year. If you withdraw a case it means you will be arrested because you have wasted our energy and resources. Therefore, you have to be in cells or prison for some certain months or years. Or even both of you, victim and perpetrator, should be put in,” Sioka said.
