The Office of the Ombudsman filed a contempt of court application against the Minister of Gender Equality Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka on 28 April 2021, for failing to comply with a court order, dated 22 December 2020. The High Court had ordered the Minister to, among a few requests, state under oath what steps she would take to ensure that places of safety and child detention centers are approved. Nearly two months passed since the due date of 31 March 2021 and Sioka’s has failed to comply with the Court’s order.
