South Africa’s Department of Justice and Correctional Services has not ruled out the possibility of extraditing self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary to South Africa. This, Newsflash reports, after the couple fled the country, citing safety concerns. Justice minister Ronald Lamola explained that Malawi is a signatory to the SADC protocol which means that in situations where people commit offences that are punishable by law in either country it is possible to facilitate extradition. Meanwhile former Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, has also weighed in on the subject, expressing the view that Bushiri and his wife have greatly undermined the law of South Africa and saying that Bushiri is setting a bad example for his followers.
