Following the recent petrol and diesel price increases fuel has become an extremely valuable commodity and is reportedly now being stolen right out of people’s tanks. News24 reports that in a trend first reported in the United States, thieves in South Africa are drilling or puncturing a hole in a vehicle’s fuel tank and stealing the diesel or petrol in it. While it has not yet been ascertained whether the stolen fuel is being used by criminals themselves, or if it’s being sold at a cheaper price, numerous verified reports of the theft having happened have been shared from across the country, with a vehicle security specialist confirming that they’ve already had to fix plenty of fuel tanks on various vehicles.
