The ANC together with the South African Communist Party and Cosatu have begun a nationwide mobilisation of their structures and communities against the violence and destruction in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. This follows an urgent meeting of the Alliance Political Council where it was determined that the counter-revolutionary offensive manifested by violence, looting, destruction, and economic sabotage must be stopped immediately. Meanwhile the education activist Hendrick Makaneta has strongly condemned the looting that happened in 32 schools in KwaZulu-Natal alone, saying it is difficult to understand why schools should be targeted.
