Ukrainian forces say they have recaptured several villages seized by the Russians north of Kharkiv, the country’s second most-populous city, though pro-Russian officials in the captured city of Kherson say they plan to ask Vladimir Putin to recognize the region as part of Russian territory. Sergei Kyslysta, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Nations, meanwhile says the country is bracing for a long, grinding conflict.
