With photos and video being shared widely of large waves breaking over the breakwater and inundated beaches in Swakopmund, reports have also been received of many beaches along South Africa’s Western Cape having been battered by large, damaging waves due to strong winds of between 50km/h and 70km/h. News24 quotes the South African Weather Service as saying the large waves were likely to subside later on Thursday, but could result in disruptions at small harbours and damage to coastal infrastructure. Meanwhile, a warning for disruptive rain has also been issued for parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
