Today marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, implemented by UNESCO and UN Women to promote full and equal access to participation in science for women and girls. With female students representing only 35% of all students enrolled in STEM related fields of study at higher education level globally we spoke to Dr Petja Debreva, a Physicist at the University of Namibia who said, the day is a reminder that women and girls play a critical role in science and technology communities and that their participation should be strengthened.
