Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Child Welfare, Doreen Sioka, speaking during the launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, called on men who are victims of gender-based violence to speak up and report cases of violence. The Namibia press agency reports that Sioka also called on victims who withdraw cases of abuse to stop, suggesting that they be prosecuted themselves for doing so. “As we amend the Domestic Violence Act we will set up a committee to deal with people who withdraw cases. Those who withdraw cases should replace perpetrators or [both should be locked up]. They are disappointing the government, they are disappointing their relatives. It is a shame for women to withdraw cases,” said Sioka.
