Today is World Ozone Day. It was declared in 1994 by the United Nations following the signing of the Montreal Protocol. The agreement aims to protect the ozone layer by taking measures to control the global production of ozone-depleting substances. Newsflash reports that this year’s celebration is themed Ozone for Life, acknowledging decades of ozone layer protection, preserving of the environment, and human health. The chief executive officer of the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, Maryke Musson, says the theme reminds us ozone is crucial for life on earth.
