Relations between South Africans and Somali nationals are still on a knife edge in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, where the City Press newspaper reports that any minor incident could reignite the fire already simmering underneath. This after after violence erupted last week resulting in eight minibus taxis, a car and four shops being reduced to ashes following a road rage incident between a taxi operator and a Somali businessperson. The newspaper reports that in interviews with residents in the area there is an overarching feeling of xenophobia with only one person interviewed saying he liked the Somalis as they were helpful to locals.
